After researching what else women today are also afraid of using the ‘would you rather’ questioning method, (would you rather tackle a spider or go for your smear test?) -the imagery is a series of abstract shaped taken from spiders and webs.
The imagery quite abstract as bearing in mind every woman is invited for the test -every woman is very different, all races, all shapes and sizes; it is important to keep the service appealing to all.
Inspired by the greatly published fight against cervical cancer of celebrity; Jade Goody, myself and young women around me, this service would consist of an information pack containing the NHS leaflet ‘The Cervical Smear Test- Explained’ with your own printed silk comfort square to be taken with you to your test to use to keep your dignity- instead of the kitchen paper type squares currently used.
For most young women the idea of intimate examination by a complete stranger is particularly frightening and a lot are completely put off the idea.
Focusing primarily at women being invited for their first smear test (early twenties) the Info Pack and Comfort Square would be like bringing something from home with us. The bond between the arrival of the pack at your home, reading the information and finally bringing the square with you to the GP surgery would provide a connection to alleviate the nerves and help make the procedure more personal and less scary.
Keeping in line with the NHS current leaflets and posters I have used the magenta colouring matching the stationery combined with a simple grey with gold on silk making the piece plush and sumptuous.
On the squares there are uplifting quotes from famous women in today’s society reminding us to stay positive and keep happy.
